The dining room at The Bridge is called the Second Chance Café. The Stewpot is currently serving three meals a day, seven days a week to more than 700 people per meal with the assistance of over 1300 wonderful volunteers a month. Volunteers dish up a delicious nutritious meal prepared by The Second Chance Café kitchen staff served cafeteria style. Volunteers also pour beverages for guests once they are seated.

Serve lunch at The Bridge on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Lunch is served from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 11:00 am for orientation and preparation, wear closed toe shoes and leave purses and other personal items in locked cars.

The Bridge is located at 1818 Corsicana Street, Dallas, TX, 75201, just north of Interstate 30 and 2 blocks west of the Farmers Market. The Bridge parking lot is at the corner of Corsicana and St. Paul. Enter the gate accessible from the parking lot, turn to the right and enter the Dining Hall.

The Dallas Police Department will be presenting the Officer of the Month Award at our meeting, and will share a few words about both the role of the Assist the Officer Foundation and the direction of the Dallas Police Department.

The Assist The Officer Foundation provides financial assistance to officers who are facing the loss of income due to a serious injury, life-threatening illness or other catastrophic event. Immediate assistance is also available to an officer’s family in the event of the death of an active officer.

Since its creation in 1999, the foundation has provided assistance to dozens of officers and their families who were faced with any number of different life-altering situations.
